ÿHIGHLIGHTS OF ACCOMPLISHMENTS

March 2007 - April 2008

  • 2007 Annual Membership Dinner featuring Dr. Hans Blix as keynoter held on 3/27/07 at Princeton Theological Seminary; draws full house of 325.

  • Annual Concert for Peace featuring Dar Williams, with Stan Stroman and Friends opening, draws 400 on 3/31 in Princeton.

  • Over 3000 Fact Sheets distributed about excessive military spending at expense of urgent domestic needs in conjunction with Tax Day, April 17. CFPA Executive Director Rev. Bob Moore gives three talks to over 200 on same topic from 4/16-4/18.

  • Students for Peace (SFP) Lobby Day to DC on 4/25/07 has 15 high school students lobby for peace legislation. On 5/26/07, SFP holds its first Peace Conference in Princeton with over 80 high school and college students participating.

  • Annual Peace is Patriotic gathering draws 75 on 7/2/07 at Monument Plaza next to Princeton Boro Hall.

  • Over 100 hear nuclear weapons expert Joseph Cirincione and a Nagasaki survivor at Annual Commemoration of Atomic Bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki on 8/5/07.

  • CFPA co-sponsors 9/23/07 Forum on Protecting Basic Civil Liberties with over 100 attending at Trenton Friends Meeting.

  • October 27 Regional Demonstration Against the Iraq War draws hundreds at CFPA feeder events in Trenton, Camden, and suburbs of Philadelphia leading to concluding March and Rally with 8,000 in Independence Mall in Center City Philadelphia.

  • 2007 Annual Conference and Interfaith Service for Peace on “Stopping Nuclear Terrorism and Proliferation” draws over 650 on 11/11/07 at Princeton University.

  • CFPA Executive Director, Rev. Bob Moore, gives 12 talks between December 2007 and April 2008 on Impacting the 2008 Elections for Peace throughout the region to lay the groundwork for CFPA’s Peace Voter 2008 Campaign.

  • CFPA begins conducting Candidate Briefings for Major Party candidates in two targeted Congressional Districts in January 2008, using world-class experts including nuclear physicists and career CIA agent. Three conducted to date.

  • Overflow crowd of 350 attend An Afternoon of Iranian and Persian Culture organized by Peace Education Committee and area Iranian community on 1/27/08 at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Princeton.

  • CFPA co-sponsors Interfaith Retreat on Spiritual Pilgrimages of Peacemaking attended by over 75 diverse people of faith on 2/2/08 at Princeton Theological Seminary.

  • NJ Students for Peace, the regional CFPA affiliate of high school students, draws over 100 to its semi-annual Peace Fest on 3/15 in Princeton.

  • CFPA and its 17 chapters hold over 30 events commemorating fifth Anniversary of Iraq War March 16-19 throughout the region, and generate dozens of major media stories in response.
  • CFPA co-sponsors Protest when President Bush visits Freehold, NJ on 3/28/08 with over 100 in attendance and extensive press coverage, on less than two days notice.

  • CFPA sponsors its Annual Penny Poll on 4/15, Tax Day, generating substantial area press coverage showing that most American taxpayers want substantially less of their tax dollars going to the military and instead invested in urgent human needs.

  • CFPA runs Peace Voter Signature Ads, comparing the positions of the remaining Democratic and Republican Presidential Candidates, in Pennsylvania newspapers with a circulation of over 111,000 copies of before that state’s April 22 Primary.
  • 2008 Annual Membership Dinner featuring Jonathan Schell as keynoter held on 4/27/08 at Trinity Episcopal Church; draws capacity crowd of 175. Honorees include the late Jerry Eure, Sr, a Trenton peace activist and former member and staffer.

HIGHLIGHTS OF ACCOMPLISHMENTS
April 2006 - March 2007

  • Peace Voter Guides placed as half-page signature ads in 8 newspapers with circulation of 365,000 in four targeted races in New Jersey and Pennsylvania before Election Day April 2006. Another 20,000 Voter Guides distributed by mail, door-to-door, through organizations, and by leafleting transit stops. Candidate who was shown to be better on peace issues won in 3 of the 4 targeted races!
  • 2006 Annual Conference and Interfaith Service for Peace on “SMART Security” on Sunday, November 12, 2006 draws 300 at Princeton University Chapel and overflow crowd Princeton Public Library.
  • CFPA organizes State House Rally and Palmer Square Vigil on January 3, 2007 to mark tragic milestone of death of 3000th US soldier in Iraq, generating major press coverage throughout the region. Second State House Rally on January 11 in response to President Bush’s announced plans to escalate in Iraq draws over 100, also with substantial press coverage.
  • CFPA and its affiliates send 20 busloads with over 1,000 people to DC March and Rally against Iraq War on January 27. CFPA delegation of 25 returns to DC for Lobby Day on January 29.
  • “Films of War, Alternative Voices” second annual series held on four Winter 2007 evenings at Princeton Public Library and Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Princeton.
  • CFPA co-sponsors Interfaith Panel and Potluck that draws diverse crowd of 90 at First Baptist Church in Princeton on February 18 to address racial tensions and other community issues.
  • Regional March and Rally in Lambertville, NJ and New Hope, PA on March 18 in conjunction with fourth anniversary of Iraq war draws 500 and front page coverage in area newspapers. State House Rally the next day, March 19, 2007 draws over 100 and receives coverage in over 75 media outlets across the US.

HIGHLIGHTS OF ACCOMPLISHMENTS
April 2006-September 2006

  • Annual Membership Dinner featuring Daniel Ellsberg draws 200 at Princeton Seminary on 4/23/06.
  • New Chapter of CFPA has kickoff meeting on 4/24/06 in Monroe Township, NJ with 175 in attendance, becoming 14th CFPA chapter-affiliate. Later in year, Hunterdon County launches new chapter, and Roosevelt Chapter re-activated, bringing total of CFPA chapters as of end of 2006 to 16!
  • CFPA’s high school affiliate, NJ Students for Peace, sends busload of nearly 40 to Lobby Day in DC on 5/23/06.
  • Fifth Annual Peace is Patriotic Event, honoring Grannies Peace Brigade, draws 100 on 6/30/06 in Princeton. Event also held with Grannies and Rep. Frank Pallone in Trenton on 6/24/06, drawing statewide press coverage.
  • CFPA sends delegation of five to National Peace Action Congress in Detroit 7/14-16. CFPA Executive Director continues his free consulting with numerous Peace Action affiliates and organizers to support their increased effectiveness.
  • CFPA opens Peace Voter office in Lansdowne, PA on August 1 to do door-to-door canvassing and other voter education work in targeted race for Peace Voter 2006 Campaign.
  • Hiroshima/Nagasaki Commemorations, featuring a survivor of the atomic bombing, held at 5 CFPA affiliates in conjunction with anniversaries in early August, drawing over 500.
  • Diplomat John Brady Kiesling, who resigned in protest against Iraq War, gives book talk and receives prestigious CFPA award before crowd of 100 on 9/13/06 at Princeton University.

HIGHLIGHTS OF ACCOMPLISHMENTS
December 2005-August 2006

  • Coalition for Peace Action (CFPA) co-organizes fifth annual statewide Peace Train on December 3, 2005 with pre-boarding Rallies in Trenton and Princeton, and concluding March and Rally in Newark.
  • CFPA Co-Hosts National Conference, attended by 160 religious leaders of all faiths, January 13-15, 2006 at Princeton Theological Seminary to launch National Religious Campaign Against Torture.
  • CFPA hosts reception in conjunction with Concert by Indigo Girls 2/13/06 at McCarter Theater in Princeton.
  • .CFPA organizes Constitutional Vigils against illegal spying and other Administration abuses in conjunction with Moveon.org on 2/22 with 40 at State House in Trenton, and 60 at Palmer Square in Princeton.
  • “Films of War, Alternative Voices” series on four Winter 2006 evenings, co-sponsored with Princeton Public Library, draws up to 150 at each event.
  • Three nonpartisan candidate briefings, and three candidate forums, held in Bucks County, Pennsylvania in March/April 2006 with major party candidates as first step in Peace Voter 2006 Campaign. Peace Voter Guide published before May 2006 Primary as half page ad in newspapers with circulation of 110,000. Three more candidate briefings later given before General Election.
  • CFPA Coordinates New Jersey delegation of 40 to Verified Voting Lobby Day in DC on 4/6/06.
  • Annual Membership Dinner featuring Daniel Ellsberg draws 200 at Princeton Seminary on 4/23/06.

APRIL 2005-APRIL 2006

  • 25th Anniversary Membership Dinner on 4/1/05 with nuclear nonproliferation expert Joseph Cirincione, former Governor Jim Florio, and Military Families Speak Out, draws 150 at Trinity Church, Princeton.
  • Coalition organizes Lobby Days to Washington D.C. to lobby against new US nuclear weapons and Bolton nomination on April 12; for Verified Voting on June 9; and against the Iraq War on September 28.  A total of 65 participate in CFPA delegations.
  • Coalition begins consulting to strengthen 15 Peace Action affiliates, developing a mentoring relationship with each. Exchange visits and trainings begin in April 2005.
  • Coalition sponsors Peace Train to New York in conjunction with opening of Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty Review Conference on May 1, 2005. Extensive local press coverage results.
  • Coalition hosts documentary filmmaker Linda Byrket and her “Video the Votedocumentary about major problems with voting in 2004 in Ohio on May 2. Over 100 attend and heard the panel following.
  • 25th Anniversary Concert for Peace, featuring Holly Near, draws 175 on May 6, 2005.
  • Coalition is co-recipient of Humanitarian of the Year award from National Conference for Community and Justice on May 19, for its work as a leader of Central Jersey Interfaith Group.
  • Annual Commemoration of the Atomic Bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki draws 150 on August 5.
  • Coalition sends ten busloads carrying 600 supporters from the region to March and Rally against Iraq War on September 26 in Washington, D.C. Some 15 supporters return to DC on September 28 for Lobby Day on Iraq. Palmer Square Rally to protest talk by Condoleeza Rice, and Vigil to observe the death of the 2000th US soldier in Iraq, draw 150 each on September 30 and October 26, respectively.
  • Coalition hosts full weekend of activities on November 12-13, 2005 to close its 25th anniversary year: Awards Dinner with Cindy Sheehan and Dr. Rob Nelson; Make Jokes Not War comedy show; and 26th Annual Conference and Interfaith Service for Peace. All totaled approximately 1,000 attend.

2004 HIGHLIGHTS OF ACCOMPLISHMENTS

  • Lobby meetings held with Representatives Rush Holt, Rob Andrews, Frank LoBiondo, and Senators Corzine and Lautenberg, during Congressional recess from mid-December through late January 2004.
  • Annual Concert for Peace, February 28, featuring John Sebastian and Michelle Shocked, draws over 400.
  • Non-Partisan Candidate Briefings held for US Senate candidate and two US House candidates in Pennsylvania March-August 2004.
  • Coalition co-organizes Peace Train to NYC, with over 300 riders from central Jersey, on March 20—they join estimated 100,000 in New York on first anniversary of US invasion of Iraq.
  • Coalition co-organizes April 12 panel on verified voting, including Rep. Rush Holt and computer scientist Edward Felten, attended by over 100 at Princeton University.
  • Coalition coordinates April 17 statewide workshop on municipal resolutions against abuses in USA Patriot Act attended by 50 organizers; five resolutions successfully passed, with Coalition leadership, in central Jersey.
  • April 23 Membership Dinner with bio-weapons expert Dr. Jonathan Tucker draws 150 at Trinity Church, Princeton
  • Trenton Peace Center, monthly program of Trenton Chapter of the Coalition, opens to crowd of 100 at Trinity Cathedral, Trenton, on April 26.
  • Coalition organizes annual Lobby Day to Washington D.C. to lobby against new US nuclear weapons on May 5. Delegation of 25 includes lawyers, religious leaders, etc. from New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Coalition also arranges for Prof. Frank von Hippel, nuclear weapons expert, to participate in lobbying Senators from Maine on same issues in June.
  • Coalition hosts inaugural display of “Wall of Remembrance,” which includes names of all US troops killed in Iraq and as many Iraqi civilians as can be identified, just before Memorial Day at State House in Trenton.
  • Coalition Rally against US occupation of Iraq draws 200 at Palmer Square on June 26.
  • Over 120 attend special showing and discussion of movie Farenheit 911 on June 27 in Princeton.
  • Fourth annual Peace is Patriotic picnic and program draws 75 at Princeton Borough Hall on July 1.
  • Coalition co-organizes July 13 Rally on State House steps calling for a voter-verified paper trail to be mandated for all electronic voting machines, attended by over 100, resulting in extensive statewide press coverage. Subsequently a law suit with the Coalition as initial plaintiff seeking the above filed in NJ Superior Court, and case initially heard on October 27.
  • Annual Hiroshima/Nagasaki Commemoration held August 5 at Institute for Advanced Study; speakers include survivors of the bombing and Japanese-American who had been interned during WWII.
  • Major Peace Voter effort in swing state of Pennsylvania, led by Coalition, distributes voter guide comparing US Presidential, Senate, and House candidates in two swing districts. More than 950,000 in total are distributed through mailings, emails, and signature ads.
  • Church Folks for a Better America “Dove Ad” critiquing US policy in Iraq from faith perspective, signed by 25 world class theologians, published by Coalition in New York Times, Philadelphia Inquirer, Pittsburgh Post Gazette, and a number of newspapers in Ohio. Ad appears in over 6 million copies of newspapers total.
  • Coalition launches 25th Anniversary with November 13 Gala attended by 115 at $250 per plate, and November 14 Conference and Interfaith Service attended by over 1,000.
  • Coalition co-coordinates statewide Peace Train on December 4 to protest continuing US quagmire in Iraq, with some 75 boarding trains in Trenton and Princeton to Newark, where statewide rally and March with over 150 is held.
