• In response to US drone killing of top Iranian general and greatly increased threat of war with Iran, CFPA spearheads Emergency Rally for Diplomacy, Not War with Iran, attended by 300 on January 11, 2020.
  
  
• CFPA co-sponsors annual Martin Luther King Multifaith Commemoration Service with about 500 diverse attendees, on 1/20/20 in Princeton.

• CFPA organizes Emergency Rally for Diplomacy, Not War with North Korea and Iran on Nov. 5, 2017 in Princeton, with over 100 participants and front-page press coverage.

• 38^th Annual Conference and Multifaith Service for Peace on The Challenges of Peace in the Trump Era draws 600 in Princeton on November 12, 2017, and results in front page press coverage.

• In late 2017 and early 2018, CFPA’s Ceasefire NJ (CFNJ) Project coordinates statewide delegation meetings with key legislative leaders, and newly elected NJ Governor Phil Murphy, to foster unified approach to strengthening gun violence prevention laws in NJ. After being sworn in, in close coordination with CFNJ, Murphy signs seven additional gun safety laws through November 2018.

• CFPA’s Ceasefire NJ (CFNJ) Project leads grassroots advocacy in NJ Legislature and with Gov. Christie for Banning Bump Stocks in December 2017 and early January 2018, leading to bill being signed into law.

** The Coalition for Peace Action (CFPA) conducted an intensive Peace Voter Campaign, with your support, leading up to the 2018 midterm election.

In four of CFPA's targeted races (two each in NJ and PA), CFPA's Peace Voter efforts helped candidates significantly better on gun safety and peace issues to win!

Two of those were open seats in which a Republican incumbent retired and a pro-peace Democrat won! One was a victory by an incumbent Democrat in a new district.

But the most exciting was in New Jersey's 7th District, in which CFPA did a Candidate Briefing, Peace Voter Guide, and ran signature ads, our most significant effort. Challenger Tom Malinowski narrowly unseated incumbent Republican Leonard Lance!

Virtually every political analyst agrees that Democratic victories in NJ and PA were key to the Democrats regaining a majority in the US House of Representatives. And CFPA's Peace Voter Campaign contributed significantly to that!

Our overall Campaign included putting together delegations of our issue experts and organizational leaders to conduct Candidate Briefings for ten major party candidates!

We sent out Peace Voter Questionnaires and researched the positions of incumbents on our issues, and have published and distributed Peace Voter Guides for four Congressional Districts, two each in NJ and PA!

We raised funds to publish the Peace Voter Guide for the toss-up race in NJ District 7 and ran half page ads in newspapers with a circulation of almost 25,000 before Election Day!

Finally, we coordinated closely with National Peace Action, which endorsed and gave PAC donations to Chrissy Houlahan and Tom Malinowski, both of whom won!

• In Fall 2016, CFPA's Ceasefire NJ Project co-leads nearly unanimous bipartisan passage in NJ Legislature of bill to keep guns away from domestic abusers. Bill is subsequently signed into law in January 2017.

• Lobby Day to DC with 25 participants on 12/6/16 advocates resolution to pause US nuclear build-up and advocating No Wars, No Warming initiatives.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS 2015 – CFPA in PENNSYLVANIA:

• January 20^th— Pennsylvania Coalition for Peace Action Co-Sponsors Inauguration Event in Pennsylvania—with Pennsylvanians Against Fracking. Our first PA "No Wars, No Warming" Campaign Event. As Governor Tom Wolf is inaugurated—we tell governor: "End Fracking in Pennsylvania!" 250 attend event. This is a continuing campaign.

• Monthly: Buxmont CFPA Chapter co-sponsors monthly Horsham Drone Base Protest, with large coalition. Begins March 15^th
• March 12^th— Pennsylvania CFPA co-sponsors Anti-Nuclear Weapons Forum, Phila. Ethical Society, PA CFPA director speaks on the World Court Case Marshall Islands v. 9 Nuclear Weapons States, panel with PSR, PNA, and Ethical Society speakers.

• April 22^nd: PA CFPA helps organize "Climate, War, and Peace" in Princeton, led by Alesha Vega, Associate Director of CFPA. Worked with many allied groups, scholars.

• April 26^th: We join CFPA's Peace Train to Peace and Planet Rally and March in New York, where 20,000 march to the UN to support nuclear disarmament and climate action for peace.
• June 26^th: Philadelphia's Temple University hosts the US Social Forum. The PA Coalition for Peace Action, our Regional Office, along with Peace Action affiliates, National Peace Action, and our PA allies, facilitated an all-day People's Movement Assembly. Workshops throughout the day. USSF attracted some 1200 attenders, over 3 days.
• July 23^rd: Lobby Day on Iran Nuclear Agreement, Washington, D.C.
  Our Delegation met with Senator Bob Casey (D-PA), and PA and NJ Senate staff. Thirteen people, including scientific experts, our director, clergy, and an Iranian American participated in Both Senator Casey and Senator Booker, who were undecided, supported the deal in the Senate vote.
• September 3^rd: Understanding the Iran Deal Dr. Zia Mian presented in Philadelphia We co-sponsor "Understanding the Iran deal" featuring Dr. Zia Mian, Princeton nuclear physicist, at this presentation at Germantown Friends Meeting on September 3^rd. Mian warns of risks ahead.
• Faith, Climate, and Fracking: A Moral Call to Action" 9/12/15 Newtown, PA.  CFPA, with Buxmont CFPA, 350 Bucks County, et al. co-sponsored and led workshops for an event on "Faith, Climate, and Fracking: A Moral Call to Action" at the Newtown Friends Meeting in Newtown, PA on Saturday, September 12, on the eve of Pope Francis' visit, soon after his encyclical urging action on climate change.
• September 16: Ed joined UN Association of Greater Philadelphia, for The Iran Deal and the UN: How the Deal Will Work, and Some Words from Pope Francis on Nuclear Weapons. We connected the Pope's words to implementing "Diplomacy Not War" with Iran. (PPT is available via CFPA.)

• Throughout 2015, Ed and CFPA Pennsylvania, as well as Jo Schlesinger, our Pittsburgh CFPA representative, and Cathy Leary, our Buxmont Chapter representative, worked together, on events and on policy issues, such as drones, gun safety, anti-nuclear, and climate issues. We worked closely with HQ in Princeton, especially Rev. Bob Moore on lobbying, Alesha Vega, associate director, on No Wars No Warming, social media, and Web-site.

• October 1, University of Pittsburgh Law School, Jo, Robin Alexander, of Remembering Hiroshima, Imagining Peace, Ed and many others participated in the forum on the cases in the International Court of Justice, and U.S. Federal District Court in San Francisco, of Republic of the Marshall Islands vs. Nine Nuclear Weapons States. These cases are a historic attempt to seek a final adjudication, based on the globally-endorsed Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, that the nine nuclear States are obligated by the NPT, to act in good faith to bring to a successful conclusion talks leading to full and complete nuclear weapons disarmament.

• December 19, CFPA participated at Friends Center in a mass meeting of allied groups, supporting just-approved 195-nation UN Paris Climate Agreement, and we agreed to follow up, each in our own areas, together when possible, to work and lobby our representatives to relieve the risks to our health, safety, well-being and climate, from things including hydraulic fracking of gas wells in PA and around the USA. We will continue to use the film Groundswell Rising, which we've previously shown in Philadelphia, Bucks, and around the USA with the executive producer and CFPA Advisor, Mark Lichty, to make the case to ban fracking in PA. Finally we can add that in part due to allied efforts, New York State and many counties in Florida, as well as areas in California, Colorado, and Texas have already banned fracking. This issue, like the Iran Deal and the Paris Agreement—which some doubted could happen—can, and we believe will, with persistence and organizing in the State and elsewhere.
  
  >We will continue in 2016, to:

1. Act to further CFPA's signature issues, noted in the Secretary's Report and 2015 Accomplishments on the CFPA Web site: nuclear abolition; gun safety and anti-trafficking; anti-drones; military budget reductions.
2. Further progress on the issues noted above—reducing and ending fracking, to further a cooler Earth; and the Marshall islands cases, in pursuit of both environmental justice (nuclear decontamination), and our core issue of nuclear weapons abolition.
3. In our pursuit of a Cooler Earth, we will pursue the No Wars, No Warming campaign as central, noting that a cooler Earth can greatly reduce the potential conflicts over water, land, and oil that arise in part from the unprecedented warming of the Earth during the Industrial Revolution, and increasingly now during the Second Industrial Revolution; we will also seek clean energy solutions, not new nuclear power, which risks nuclear weapons proliferation, as we've seen from Pakistan and India, to Iran and Libya. Nuclear weapons remain the greatest existential threat, even beyond climate change and desertification, because a large part of the biosphere can be destroyed in hours or days, versus years and generations.
   

June 2014 - May 2015

• CFPA kicks off Peace Voter 2014 Campaign by conducting seven candidate briefings and produces two Peace Voter Guides in connection with Primaries in NJ and PA in spring 2014. Two more candidate briefings and one more Peace Voter Guide done leading up to November 4 General Election.
  

• Annual Membership Dinner on 6/8/14, with Rep. Rush Holt as honoree and keynote speaker, draws 200 at Princeton Theological Seminary; gets extensive press coverage.

• CFPA co-sponsors Vigil for Justice and Nonviolence in Ferguson, with 300 in attendance at Palmer Square, Princeton, on 11/25/14 immediately following no indictment decision for Michael Brown's shooting death.
  

• Some 200 attend Commemorations of second anniversary of Newtown shooting, in Cherry Hill and Princeton, NJ; and in Bristol PA on December 7 and 14, 2014.
  

• Over 80 attend CFPA Holiday Gathering on 12/12/14 which includes honoring Irene Etkin Goldman for finishing her tenth year as CFPA Chair.
  

• CFPA facilitates first in the nation Interfaith Conference on Drone Warfare attended by 150 faith leaders from over 22 states from January 23-25, 2015 at Princeton Theological Seminary.
  

• Full house of 75 attend CFPA's fifth annual Membership Renewal Gathering, featuring co-authors Zia Mian and Frank von Hippel of new book, Unmaking the Bomb, on March 29, 2015 in Princeton.
  

• Some 75 participate in CFPA's Earth Day Event with Panel including scientists, lawyers, professors, clergy as part of its No Wars, No Warming Campaign on 4/22/15, the 45^th anniversary of the first Earth Day.
  

• Some 60 supporters attend CFPA's Peace Train, including Trenton pre-boarding Rally, to Peace and Planet Mobilization in NYC before start of Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty Review Conference on 4/26/15.
  

• CFPA co-sponsors Interfaith Unity Walk, with 300 to sites of six 2015 murders in Trenton, NJ on 5/1/15.
  

November 2013 - December 2014

• CFPA's 34th Annual Conference and Interfaith Service for Peace on Diplomacy, Not War with Iran, with Ambassador Andrew Young and four Iran experts, draws 1,000 on 11/10/13. Over 50 personal constituent letters in support of Diplomacy with Iran written at the Conference to key US Senators in the region.

• CFPA spearheads intensive campaign against bill to impose new sanctions that would undermine Diplomacy with Iran, including Emergency Vigil, Emergency Lobby Day to Washington D.C., Demonstrations at Senators Offices in Newark and Philadelphia, and grasstops letter signed by 40 local and area leaders in December 2013 and January 2014. Sanctions bill is subsequently shelved!

• CFPA sponsors or co-sponsors three Commemorations of the Newtown, CT shooting on its first Anniversary on 12/14/13. Over 200 supporters attend, despite snow.

• Fourth annual Membership Renewal Gathering, with Code Pink co-founder Medea Benjamin as keynote speaker, draws 100 on 3/16/14.

• CFPA co-sponsors screening and discussion of Robert Greenwald documentary film Unmanned: America's Drone Wars on 3/23/14 at Princeton Public Library, with 100 in attendance.

• CFPA is primary sponsor of Persian New Year Celebration on 3/30/14 in Princeton, with 175 in attendance.

November 2012 - December 2013

• CFPA's Peace Voter 2012 Campaign includes two candidate briefings by CFPA experts and production of Presidential Peace Voter Guide that is published in nearly one million newspapers in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania! As part of the mobilization, CFPA establishes PA Peace Project office in Philadelphia, which works with numerous colleges and universities to educate students, faculty, and staff, and ensure they are able to vote.

• CFPA's 33^rd Annual Conference and Interfaith Service for Peace, featuring Noam Chomsky, Amy Goodman, Juan Cole, and Fr. Pat Connor, draws 1,100 on 11/11/12, the largest crowd in many years.

• CFPA sends delegation of over 30 from NJ and PA to Washington DC on 12/5/12 for Peace Lobby Day to advocate for major cuts to military spending, to prevent cuts to urgent human needs, as "fiscal cliff" approached.

• CFPA co-sponsors Vigils on 12/15/12 and 12/20 with over 350 participants in response to Newtown, CT shooting, getting major press coverage. CFPA's Ceasefire NJ Project also does numerous press interviews.

• CFPA holds 12/28/12 Benefit Concert for Peace with Julia Nixon and David Ylvisaker, with approximately 175 attending at Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Princeton.

• CFPA co-sponsors annual Martin Luther King Interfaith Service on 1/21/13 at the Jewish Center of Princeton, with about 100 in attendance and half the offering going to benefit CFPA.

• CFPA sponsors fundraising Meet and Greet with 80 supporters following Arlo Guthrie Concert at Princeton's McCarter Theatre on 2/10/13.

• CFPA and its Ceasefire NJ (CFNJ) Project mobilize for votes on strengthening New Jersey's gun safety laws, starting with successful votes on 22 bills in NJ Assembly on 2/21/13, then votes in the NJ Senate in April and May. CFNJ Project Director Nicola Bocour and CFPA Executive Director Rev. Bob Moore give dozens of talks in region.

• Some 100 supporters attend Membership Renewal Gathering with Dr. Helen Caldicott speaking on 3/14/13 in Princeton, and another 100 come for second Presentation for CFPA's PA Peace Project in Philadelphia on 3/15.

• CFPA conducts its annual Penny Poll on federal budget priorities with over 400 participants on 4/15 and 4/28 in Princeton. Results demonstrate that large majority wants less spent on military and more on domestic priorities.

• CFPA sponsors, along with 25 co-sponsors, Pre-Mothers Day Gathering, March, and Rally vs. Gun Violence attended by 400 in Trenton, NJ and Morrisville, PA on 5/11. Former PA Governor Ed Rendell is among the speakers.

• CFPA sponsors or co-sponsors ten emergency Rallies and Vigils in region in late August and early September 2013 for Diplomacy, Not Bombing, in Syria with hundreds of participants and extensive press coverage. On October 6, CFPA's Forum on Syria: Options for Peace with three expert speakers draws 60 in Princeton

• Republican Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick, from the 8th district of PA (mostly Bucks County), who previously declined to oppose the Afghanistan War, takes public position in November 2011 advocating immediate US withdrawal after intense campaign, with petitions, post cards, lobby visist, and demonstrations, led by CFPA's Bucks County chapters.

• CFPA co-sponsors a Jobs for the 99% Rally at the Trenton State House steps on 11/17 as part of a National Day of Action. 200 people attend the rally.

• CFPA celebrates the withdrawal of the final troops from Iraq on 12/29 with a champagne toast, a round of congratulations, and speeches from those who were at the forefront of the movement to end the Iraq War. The gathering is attended by 65 people and receives front page coverage from the Trenton Times.

• CFPA co-sponsors an Interfaith Vigil to Stop Gun Violence in collaboration with Fellowship in Prayer, Million Mom March, Trenton NAACP in Princeton on 01/08.

• A CFPA Pennsylvania delegation meets with the offices on Senators Bob Casey and Pat Toomey to discuss nuclear disarmament and reducing military spending.

• An overlow crowd of 100 attends CFPA's 2nd Annual Membership Renewal Party on 03/07. Dr. Steven Kull and Dr. Shapoor Vali both gave talks on Iran and how the issues over its nuclear program can be solved peacefully

• CFPA co-sponsors 03/19 Forum entitled Can Diplomacy Prevent A War With Iran? Resolving the Nuclear Crisis Ambassador Seyed Hossein Mousavian, former spokesperson for Iran's nuclear negotiating team, and Dr. Zia Mian, Princeton University nuclear physicist.

• Annual Penny Poll on federal budget priorities conducted by CFPA volunteers, with 65 participating on 4/17, tax day (co-sponsored with Central Jersey Moveon); and 300 participating on 4/28 at Communiversity.

• CFPA's 21^st chapter launched at Stonebridge in Montgomery, NJ on 4/30, with 28 at kick-off meeting.

• Annual Membership Dinner featuring Iran diplomacy expert, Dr. Trita Parsi, draws 175 on 6/3 at Princeton Seminary.

• Philadelphia City Council passes a resolution to Redirect Military Spending to Fund Our Communities on 06/21.

• Annual Peace is Patriotic Picnic and Program on 7/2 draws 50 at Monument Park in Princeton.

• 31^st Annual Conference and Interfaith Service for Peace, entitled Global Abolition of Nuclear Weapons: An Idea Whose Time Has Come, draws 400 on 11/14/10 at Princeton University.

• CFPA makes its final push on advocating for the New START Treaty ratification. The treaty is ratified in late December and CFPA celebrates its role in this victory with a light dinner and champagne toast attended by over 50 people.
  
  
• CFPA hosts talks by Marine veteran Matthew Hoh on Afghanistan on January 18-19, 2011. Mr. Hoh's talks are covered in the Trenton Times, Princeton Packet and Bucks County Courier Times.

• CFPA co-sponsors annual Martin Luther King Interfaith Service attended by over 200 on 1/17/11 at Princeton United Methodist Church.

• First ever Membership Renewal Party featuring British Nuclear Navy veteran Commander Rob Green draws 30 on 2/23/11 at Trinity Church in Princeton.

• CFPA hosts a screening of "Hibakusha: Our Life to Live," a film about survivors of nuclear attack, on March 6, 2011 to a packed auditorium.

• CFPA holds a rally in commemoration of the 9th Anniversary of the Iraq War in Princeton on March 19, 2011. The rally includes music, several speeches, and a call to end the Afghanistan War. Several CFPA chapters throughout the area host vigils over the weekend.

• CFPA sends a delegation to a Peace Lobby Day on March 22, 2011 to lobby for an end to the Afghanistan War, cuts in the military budget, and the non-deployment of traumatized troops. The delegation meets with a number of Senators' and Representatives' offices for NJ and PA.

• CFPA hosts two talks by Larry Wittner, top historian of the world nuclear disarmament movement, entitled "How Peace Activists Saved the World from Nuclear War" on April 16 and 17.

• CFPA holds its annual Tax Day Penny Poll on April 18 outside the Palmer Square Post Office. Consistent with prior years, Princeton residents vote that Education and Health Care should receive the the largest portion of our tax dollars, while military should receive the least. Participants were then given a fact sheet on how their tax dollars are actually spent and urged to take action and advocate for reducing the military budget.

• CFPA participates in a National Day of Action on May 24 against the Afghanistan War. CFPA members call their Representatives and urge them to support ending the War. While the key amendment is narrowly defeated, it gains 42 votes from the previous year. Three area Representatives who voted  No on the amendment last year change their vote to Yes this year!

• 200 people attend CFPA's 30th Anniversary Membership Dinner on June 18, keynoted by Rep. Barney Frank. Rep. Frank speaks on the need for cutting military spending and the creation of a peace economy.

• CFPA honors Gold Star mother, peace musician, and son of former convicted terrorist who now is a committed nonviolence advocate, at its Peace is Patriotic picnic and program on July 3.

• Annual Commemorations of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, featuring physicists, daughter of bombing survivor, and survivor of Chernobyl, draw 100 at CFPA affiliates in Princeton and Bucks County, PA in early August.

• CFPA hosts a series of five presentations by A Ride Till The End, a group of bicyclists comprised of Afghanistan War veterans, artists, and activists, during the month of September. The group's tour began in New York City on September 11 and will conclude in Washington, DC on October 6th at the anti-war protests. The goal of their tour is to promote peace and healing as well as collect bicycles for returning veterans from Afghanistan.

• CFPA holds a Rally & Protest on the 10th Anniversary of the Afghanistan War, October 7, at the Trenton State House Steps. The rally is attended by 75 people and receives front page coverage from the Trenton Times, along with articles in several other area newspapers. In solidarity with the peace movement, activists from Occupy Trenton join the rally. At 4:30 that same day, CFPA's Buxmont chapters hold a vigil on the Morrisville side of the Trenton Makes bridge, and also receive local media coverage.

• CFPA co-sponsors a jobs creation panel with Nobel Laureate and Princeton economist Paul Krugman, Carol Gay, and Larry Hamm attended by 500 on 11/6 in Princeton.

• 30^th Annual Conference and Interfaith Service for Peace, entitled Toward a Peace Economy, draws 600 on 11/15/09 at Princeton University.

• Ceasefire NJ, the most prominent gun violence prevention group in NJ, comes under CFPA's umbrella with the start of 2010. CFPA also launches statewide Pennsylvania Zero Nuclear Weapons Campaign (PAZ), with some 30 organizational endorsers and three part time staff, soon after start of year.

• CFPA co-sponsors annual Martin Luther King Interfaith Service attended by over 150 on 1/18/10 at Witherspoon Street Presbyterian Church in Princeton.

• Over 150 come to CFPA reception with Judy Collins following her McCarter Theatre concert on 2/19/10.

• Together with its new student affiliate, Princeton Global Zero, CFPA co-sponsors screening of nuclear weapons abolition film Countdown to Zero before audience of 175 on 4/28/10 in Princeton.

• About 80 board CFPA's Peace Train to NYC on 5/2/10 for major Rally and March at start of Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty Review Conference in support of Global Nuclear Disarmament.

• Over 150 attend Annual Membership Dinner, with nuclear weapons abolition expert Dr. Barry Blechman, on 6/4/10 at Princeton Theological Seminary.

• 75 attend tenth annual Peace is Patriotic event on July 3 at Pennsbury Manor, honoring peace leaders in region, including US Sen. Bob Casey of Pennsylvania for being a champion for global nuclear disarmament.

• 2006 Annual Conference and Interfaith Service for Peace on "SMART Security" on Sunday, November 12, 2006 draws 300 at Princeton University Chapel and overflow crowd Princeton Public Library.

• CFPA organizes State House Rally and Palmer Square Vigil on January 3, 2007 to mark tragic milestone of death of 3000th US soldier in Iraq, generating major press coverage throughout the region. Second State House Rally on January 11 in response to President Bush's announced plans to escalate in Iraq draws over 100, also with substantial press coverage.

• CFPA and its affiliates send 20 busloads with over 1,000 people to DC March and Rally against Iraq War on January 27. CFPA delegation of 25 returns to DC for Lobby Day on January 29.

• Annual Hiroshima/Nagasaki Commemoration held August 5 at Institute for Advanced Study; speakers include survivors of the bombing and Japanese-American who had been interned during WWII.
