Ongoing Programs

The Peace Action Education Fund (PAEF) has been granted 501(c)(3) tax exempt status by the IRS and conducts the educational work. Tax deductible contributions can be made to this entity.

PAEF has several working committees:

  • Youth for Peace consists of teenagers who come together to support the PAEF's goals and organize youth-oriented peace activities.
  • The Peace Education Committee organizes the annual Interfaith Service and Conference, and other community education events; as well as sending speakers, fact sheets, and videos into schools, congregations and community groups.
  • The Concert Committee organizes occasional concerts for peace to do outreach and raise funds for the educational work.

Media
Through press conferences, press releases, radio and television programs, letters-to-the-editor, and op-ed pieces, the Coalition conveys information and perspectives on our priorities through the mass media.

[R.A.V.E. Logo] Real Alternatives to Violence for Everyone (RAVE) is a youth- based training program that uses a dynamic conflict resolution program to facilitate the effective practice of nonviolent lifestyles. The program consists of a series of three experiential workshops, led by interracial teams of AVP (Alternative to Violence Project) trained facilitators.

Annual Interfaith Service and Conference
Each fall, the CFPA sponsors a major religious and educational gathering on peace issues. Speakers have included: General William Burns, Ben Cohen, Marion Wright Edelman, Daniel Ellsberg, George Kennan, George McGovern, Mary McGrory, Patricia Schroeder, Cyrus Vance, and Andrew Young.

Public Witness
The Coalition organizes vigils, rallies, and other public demonstrations to call the attention of the community, the media, and our elected representatives to the urgent need for advancing our goals.

Annual Concert for Peace
Annually since 1986, the CFPA has sponsored a Concert for Peace to raise funds and provide cultural expressions for peace. Performers have included: David Byrne, Paul Winter Consort, Richie Havens, Holly Near, Emerson String Quartet, and Pete Seeger.

Annual Membership Gathering
The CFPA holds an annual gathering and dinner open to all members to learn of and give input to our work. Speakers have included: William Sloane Coffin, Freeman Dyson, and John Kenneth Galbraith.

Community Education
The Coalition organizes frequent forums, workshops, and speakers for the general public, as well as for schools, religious congregations, and community organizations.

Peace Voter
Each election since 1996, the Coalition seeks to make peace issues visible and influential parts of the election debate through candidate questionnaires, meetings and briefings with candidates, and publishing voter guides to educate voters on the stands of candidates prior to election day. In 1998, the Coalition's Voter Guide had over 500,000 exposures to voters.

Lobbying
Using petitions, letters, phone calls, and personal meetings, the Coalition lobbies New Jersey elected representatives to sponsor and support specific legislation to advance our goals. With its Urgent Action Network, over 600 households and key organizations are alerted when important legislation needs to be advocated to our representatives.
