Please come help us usher in a peaceful holiday season
and New Year! You are cordially invited to one or more
of the activities listed below.
4:00-5:00 pm - Symbolic tree-planting near the Peace Pole at Monument Park, in front of Princeton Borough Hall, Route 206 intersection with Nassau Street. An Iranian bicyclist couple who are circling the globe to promote peace and a positive image of their country, are planting saplings at cities along their tour. Princeton Borough Mayor Mildred Trotman is scheduled to participate in the ceremony.
5:00-6:00 pm - Evening Vigil on Palmer Square.
The theme is Peace on Earth. Candles are welcome, and we will also provide some. We suggest battery-powered lights, to prevent the wind from blowing them out (as in past years!)
6:00-7:00 pm - Potluck in Assembly Room of Nassau Presbyterian Church, 61 Nassau Street (right across from Palmer Square).
We suggest that you enter at the back door of the church, located at the rear of the parking lot near the daycare area. Please note that there is no parking at the church, but you can drop off food at the back door. Dishes can be dropped off starting at 4:45 pm for those attending the Vigil.
7:00-8:30 pm:
vPresentation by
Jafar and Naseem Edrisi, an Iranian couple who are bicycling around the world to promote peace and a green planet.
vTalk by Rev. Bob Moore, Executive Director of the Coalition, speaking on "Impacting the 2008 Elections for Peace." His remarks will be followed by a question/answer/comment session.
Again, please note that there is no parking at the church.

CANDLELIGHT VIGIL AND POTLUCK-PARTY FOR PEACE ON EARTH, PRESENTATION BY IRANIAN COUPLE AND TALK “IMPACTING THE 2008 ELECTIONS FOR PEACE” PLANNED ON TUESDAY, DECEMBER 18 IN PRINCETON
The Princeton-based Coalition for Peace Action (CFPA) is inviting peace supporters in the region to its annual Pre-holiday Peace Event on Tuesday, December 18 in Princeton, NJ.
The event starts with a Candlelight Vigil for Peace on Earth from 5-6 PM on Palmer Square in Princeton. Battery-powered candles (to keep from being blown out) will be used; those who can should bring their own, otherwise CFPA will provide them.
A Potluck Supper and Party will follow from 6-7 PM at Nassau Presbyterian Church, 61 Nassau Street in Princeton (directly across the street from Palmer Square). Those bringing dishes may drop them off by pulling into the church parking lot and bringing them in through the door in the back starting at 4:45. Participants are asked to then re-park elsewhere, so the lot is available for the church’s programs.
Following the Potluck, from 7-8:30 PM, there will be a Program, also at Nassau Presbyterian Church. The intitial presentation will be by an Iranian couple who have set off on a round-the-world cycling tour to promote peace and a positive image of their country. Jafar and Naseem Edrisi are taking little more than their optimism on their 20,000 km journey.
They expect to be away from home for two years, and have a budget of just $10 to $18 a day. "We have different objectives," explains Naseem. "One is to convey a message of peace and friendship to the countries we arrive in. Another is to plant saplings in different cities of the world. We want to make a 'green line' around the world, to help the environment."
The couple, who have both worked as tour guides, have also prepared CDs showing their favourite attractions of Iran. "We want to fix the bad image that has been created of Iran around the world," says Jafar.
The second part of the Program will be a talk by the Rev. Robert Moore, Executive Director of CFPA, on Impacting the 2008 Elections for Peace. The Rev. Moore will present CFPA’s plans for its Peace Voter 2008 Campaign, after which there will be a question/answer/comment session for attendees to react and offer input
The Rev. Moore has been Executive Director of CFPA since 1981, and has also served as part-time Pastor of East Brunswick Congregational Church since 1989. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from Purdue University, and a Master of Divinity degree from Wittenberg University. He serves in numerous leadership capacities and is the recipient of many awards. His biography and photo can be seen at the link: http://www.peacecoalition.org/about/biography.html.
All three events—the Vigil, Potluck, and Program—are free and open to the public. Those interested are encouraged to come to any one or combination of the three events.
