Every vote counts! Be an Informed Peace Voter

Below is a Letter to the Editor that CFPA Executive Director the Rev. Robert Moore sent to the media:

January 29, 2008

Dear Editor,

On February 5, New Jersey voters will have the opportunity to have a real impact on the choices in the Presidential Primaries for the first time in 24 years. I encourage all your readers to be informed voters in this major decision on our nation’s future.

The Democratic Primary is down to two viable candidates: Senators Barak Obama and Hillary Clinton. On major peace issues, there are major differences between them.

On the Iraq War, Senator Obama opposed it before it started and continues to advocate for its rapid end. Senator Clinton supported a blank check authorization to launch the war, and—unlike Senator John Edwards—has refused to renounce that vote as a mistake.

On Iran, Senator Clinton supported a bellicose resolution that labeled part of Iran’s army a terrorist organization, increasing tensions and the probability of war. Senator Obama opposed that resolution.

On preventing nuclear terrorism through negotiating a treaty for global nuclear disarmament, Senator Obama supports such negotiations. Senator Clinton only supports more limited steps, and has not embraced the goal of abolition.

On the Republican side, only Rep. Ron Paul has opposed the Iraq War and the interventionist, heavy-handed foreign policy of the Bush Administration. All the other Republicans support continuing President Bush’s policies.

More detailed information is available in a 2008 Peace Voter Guide on our web site, www.peacecoalition.org or by calling our office at (609) 924-5022. I encourage your readers to be fully informed before deciding how to vote.

Sincerely,

The Rev. Robert Moore
