Fifth Anniversary of the War in Iraq
Suggestions for observing the Moratorium:
EWear dark colored armbands with the number "5" on them. This will help give a sense of unity to the Moratorium, as well as fostering discussion with people you encounter that day. If you want to get pre-made armbands, please contact the CFPA Princeton office at (609) 924-5022.
We call on peace supporters to spend the March 19 Moratorium Day in these ways:
7:30-8:30 a.m.
EJoin fellow peacemakers at Bryn Mawr, Merion Station commuter rail stations. Collect petitions urging Congress to fund ONLY money to withdraw from Iraq
Noon
EParticipate in a visit to Congressman Jim Gerlach's field office near you. Bring anti-war messages, petitions, postcards and voided checks. Challenge the Congressman and remind the public that he has supported the war, and demand that he now oppose any further blank check funding. Call your local CFPA at (610) 623-3724 to join a delegation and find out when and where to go.
During the day
EEngage in a Teach-Out using materials supplied by CFPA, which can be downloaded from www.peace-action.org. Leave work or school 5 minutes early or 5 minutes before 5:00 pm saying "5 Years Too Many." Some people are planning to leaflet at grocery stores, handing out signs to shoppers as they enter, saying “Another Grocery Shopper Against the War.” Visibility is critical to ending the passive acquiescence to the continuation of this occupation.
4:30 p.m.
EParticipate in a vigil on the Penn Street Bridge to express your outrage and determination to end this occupation. The Bridge is at
Penn Street and 2nd St. next to Reading Community College and its new Miller Performing Arts Center.
5:00-6:30 p.m.
EParticipate in a Rally at 5:30 p.m., sponsored by the Bryn Mawr Peace Coalition. The Rally is at the corner of Lancaster and Bryn Mawr Avenue near the Ludington Library. Express your outrage and determination to end this war. A weekday rally is one of the best ways to get media coverage.
6:30 p.m:
EGathering at Ludington Library for a speaker and the showing of a video.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
EThose interested are invited to sign a petition to end funding the Iraq War. To sign it, go to: http://www.paactionnetwork.org/petitions
"We the undersigned urge that funds appropriated or otherwise made available under any provision of law, may not be obligated or expended to deploy or continue to deploy the Armed Forces to the Republic of Iraq. This is with the exception that funds be provided for the safe and orderly withdrawal of the Armed Forces from Iraq."
Sponsored by the CFPA in Pennsylvania, and by similar organizations in Minnesota, Florida, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Illinois, this petition will be delivered to U.S. Senators and Representatives.
x Visibility is critical to ending the conspiracy of silence and the passive acquiescence to the continuation of this war. Educate people in your community about the ongoing war and what is needed to end it. Don't wait for people to come to you, go out to them. This will require advance planning and preparation.
