The Princeton-based Coalition for Peace Action (CFPA), with 17 chapter-affiliates in central/southern New Jersey and Southeastern Pennsylvania, will hold a Peace Vigil from 4:00-5:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 1 at the Trenton Makes Bridge between Trenton (Warren Street) and Morrisville (Bridge Street), PA.
The Vigil is being held to mark the fifth anniversary of President Bush’s “Mission Accomplished”speech declaring victory in Iraq. It was initiated by CFPA’s Lower Bucks County, Pennsylvania chapter.
“The only thing that was ‘accomplished’ with the US invasion of Iraq was to initiate an unnecessary, illegal, and immoral war that has become a nightmare. Over 4,000 US troops have been killed, and over 50,000 seriously wounded. As many as 1 million Iraqis have died, most of them civilians; and over 4 million have become refugees,” said the Rev. Robert Moore, CFPA Executive Director.
“President Bush’s stubborn determination to continue the occupation of Iraq for over five years, and Congress’ continued funding of same, only leads to endless war. The US military occupation, with over 150,000 uniformed soldiers and another 100,000 contractors, is opposed by most Iraqis and causes the US to lose ground in the struggle against terrorism,” Rev. Moore added.
