“Creating A Culture of Peace and Nonviolence”
Friday, April 25th, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Peace Summit
We live in a culture of violence within our homes, schools, organizations, villages, and neighborhoods. From a 2000 survey, the U. S. Attorney identified 7,000 gang members and in 2005, there were 17,500.
The purpose of this summit is to unite those already working for a culture of peace; meet, discuss, and formulate a regional plan of action towards peace and harmony in our communities; and “inspire young men and women to envision and expand their horizons and fulfill their dreams and goals in a peaceful setting.
Topics of discussion include: Gangs 101, Youth Violence – “The Pandemic and Cure”, Youth Violence and Youth Gang Prevention, “Violence on the Streets – Where is the Love?”, Intergenerational Capacity Building – “Pass The Torch in The Village”, and Youth and Leadership –“The Next Generation-Ambassadors for Peace”.
Who should attend this summit: educators and administrators, medical staff, health care professionals, security officers, community outreach, law enforcement officials, school resource officers, faith and community based leaders, business leaders, youth, and parents.
Our 2008 Peacemakers are Dennis Levinson, and J. Forrest Gilmore, also honoring the famed Peace Pilgrim.
