Redeploying your economic stimulus payment to support peace:
A message from the Executive Director

In May, the US government will start sending economic stimulus rebate payments to most taxpayers. In most cases, this will be $600 to an individual, $1,200 to a married couple filing jointly. Parents with children under 17 should get an additional $300 per child.

I urge you to give all or part of your rebate to the ongoing peacemaking efforts of the Coalition for Peace Action (CFPA).  Below are six reasons to do so.

ÿAs a CFPA supporter, you believe in the cause of peace. Donating all or part of your windfall to CFPA will help actualize that which you support, moving it from wishes and hopes closer to reality. Click the link below to see Highlights of CFPA Accomplishments over the past year: http://www.peacecoalition.org/about/accomplishments.html

ÿThis is found money. If you did a household budget for 2008, you couldn't have counted on this since it wasn't voted into law until the spring. Therefore, it is money you weren't counting on for other things.

ÿYou can reduce your 2008 taxes, if you itemize charitable donations on your 2009 tax return, by giving all or part of your economic stimulus rebate to our tax-deductible arm, Peace Action Education Fund (PAEF)

ÿIt is a good way to counter the excessive amount of your federal tax dollar spent on war and militarism. Over $200 billion per year is now going for the war in Iraq, over $750 billion (averaging out to about $5,000 per US household) in this year's budget for the military- the most since World War II, and more than the rest of the world's military budget combined!

ÿIn this crucial Election Year, CFPA needs greatly increased support from you, our members, to meet the great challenges of maximizing our impact for peace through CFPA's Peace Voter 2008 Campaign. We must get a larger pro-peace majority in the Congress and do effective voter education in the Presidential race.

ÿ It is good for the US and the global economy. Your donation will help CFPA be more effective in its advocacy of a Peace Economy, which would free up huge sums to invest in urgent priorities like health care, job creation, countering global warming, infrastructure re-development, education, etc. This is the kind of federal spending that has been shown to really spur the economy!

I urge you to make your special economic stimulus donation as soon as possible by clicking the link below and using the third option (Contribution in addition to my membership) on our secure link; or by mailing your check to the address below my name. Note that the first three options in the pulldown menu are keyed to the amount of your probably economic stimulus rebate.
