25th Anniversary
concluding
Interfaith Service and
Conference for Peace |
This year’s Annual Conference and Interfaith Service for Peace, which will mark the end of our 25th Anniversary Year, is on Sunday, November 13 at Princeton University. The topic is the Morality of War and Alternatives for Peace.
|
Scott Ritter, former UN Weapons Inspector and Team Leader in Iraq, and leading expert critic of the Bush Administration’s preemptive war in Iraq, will be a speaker.
We plan a critical in-depth look at the morality of a government’s choice to initiate war with a preemptive strike. We will also examine peaceful alternatives, such as inspections, as a means to prevent the spread of weapons of mass destruction.
We have some outstanding experts, in addition to Scott Ritter, scheduled to speak at this year’s event. The Rev. Dr. Bob Edgar, Secretary General of the National Council of Churches, former member of Congress, and former President of a major seminary, will preach for the Interfaith Service. Speakers for the afternoon conference include

Princeton Cranes for Peace Project
In observance of the 60th Anniversary of the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki,
the Coalition for Peace Action
is sponsoring a summer project to fold 1000 origami cranes.
Origami paper and instructions are available at the
Princeton Library, Children’s Floor.
The he cranes made over the summer summer, , in addition to those that are made at
CFP CFPA’s ’s Commemoration of the A Atomic tomic Bombings of Hir Hiroshima oshima and Nagasaki,
will be strung and displayed at the W Woodr oodr oodrow ow Wilson Plaza on A August ugust 5,
during the pr program. ogram. Participants articipants are welcome to tak take e peace cranes home.
This project stems from the story of Sadako, a young girl who died in 1955 as a result of radiation poisoning from exposure in Hiroshima 10 years before. A Japanese legend asserts that if one could fold 1000 paper cranes, they would be granted good health. Her efforts gave many courage and hope; she made it to 644... Today a statue of Sadako holding a golden crane stands in Hiroshima Peace Park in Japan, and each year thousands of paper cranes are placed at her side on August 6, Peace Day.
We would love to spread the effort further; if you would like to help with this project, please
contact the CFPA office, or Liz Cohen at lizarch5@eticomm.net. Instructions on how to fold the
peace crane can be found at this website: www.sadako.org/foldingcranes.htm.
