| COALITION FOR PEACE ACTION RECEIVES THREE AWARDS FROM NATIONAL PEACE ACTION CONGRESS
The Princeton-based Coalition for Peace Action (CFPA) received three awards at the National Congress of Peace Action, which is the largest US peace group and with which CFPA is affiliated. The National Congress was held July 14-16 in Detroit, MI.
CFPAs first award recognized it for Excellence in Membership and Chapter Development. In the past two years, CFPAs membership has grown by 44% to a current level of 1,750 households. CFPAs executive director, the Rev. Robert Moore, estimates this represents at least 3,000 individuals.
In addition, CFPA has expanded from 4 active chapters two years ago to 14 currently throughout central and southern New Jersey and Southeastern Pennsylvania. Three staffed offices, two in Pennsylvania and one in southern New Jersey, in addition to the regional office in Princeton, serve this growing group of chapter affiliates.
The second award was for Excellence in Student Organizing. CFPA has two student affiliates: NJ Students for Peace, consisting of high school students from central New Jersey; and the Progressive Student Alliance at The College of New Jersey. CFPA has worked with these affiliates to send buses to Washington D.C. both for demonstrations and for a Lobby Day; has included their leaders as speakers at its events; and has held a number of well-attended Peace Fests with student musicians.
The final award was to long time CFPA board member Carol Kiger Allen for Excellence in Board Leadership. In addition to serving on CFPAs board, Carol represents CFPA on the National Peace Action board and serves as co-chair of CFPAs Committee for Political Action. We applaud Carol who has served faithfully and with distinction in multiple leadership roles for a number of years, said the Rev. Robert Moore.
