The Coalition for Peace Action recently joined onto a coalition against the purchase of an armored vehicle by the Mercer County Sheriff's Office. Unfortunately, the County Freeholders voted to go ahead and purchase the vehicle. Click here to read NJ.com article about the purchase, that cites CFPA Executive Director Bob Moore.

Leading up to the Freeholder vote on the issue, we encouraged Mercer County residents to call and email in opposition to the purchase. We also had a strong presence at the Freeholder meetings, resulting in a partial success, as one Freeholder switched his vote!

The armored vehicle will cost taxpayers $300,000, needlessly taking money away from other important county budget items/initiatives. Please read this article regarding how police militarization fails to protect officers and targets Black communities.

Please follow up with the Freeholders (contact info below) to either express your thanks for their correct vote, or your disappointment for their vote in favor of the purchase. Koontz and Frisby were the only votes against the purchase, and should be thanked.
