$6.5 trillion. That's an average of $45,454 per American taxpayer spent on US wars since 2001!
We're paying for seemingly endless wars on nearly every continent on the planet — in Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, Syria, Yemen, Somalia, Libya, Niger, and quite likely other places never made public.
Yet here we are, fighting for our lives against the greatest acute threat to our actual security in decades, with medical supplies and hospitals utterly overwhelmed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Decades of bloated Pentagon budgets for wars we never should have started--for weapons systems we don’t need, and for nuclear weapons we should be dismantling--have left us unable to adequately address a true threat to our security.
We’ve long needed a stockpile of N95 face masks rather than F-35 fighter jets.
This pandemic could provide an opening for us to correct our skewed priorities. As much as our economy is in need of a stimulus, we also need investments in a more peaceful, secure world!
You may be one of the millions of Americans receiving stimulus checks from the federal government. Some of you undoubtedly need it for critical individual needs.
However, if you’re able, this is your opportunity to put your stimulus check to work to seize this moment to help us CHANGE our nation’s priorities so that we invest in real human security and health care needs, not warfare.
Our healthcare workers have proven themselves as the new frontlines, yet the Trump Administration's proposed 2021 budget continues to call for funding cuts to health care and increases to the Pentagon.
New nuclear weapons and new advanced fighting weapons systems are utterly useless against this global health pandemic.
The battle over our spending priorities is coming in the months ahead. We’ll be utilizing every tool in our toolbox to make sure Congress is pressed to make the major changes we need to ensure our health care is not only funded fully for this crisis, but put on a path to provide us the true health security we need.
We’ll need your help to usher our full strength. If you can, donate some or all of the federal stimulus you receive in our fight for necessary and needed healthcare, not warfare, and stimulate peace today!
Thank you for all you do in the cause for peace.
