In our pursuit of peace, we need to speak out against the epidemic of police violence in this country, most recently demonstrated by the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis. Click here to email your Congressperson today!
Our federal government can do something to change the violent status quo of racist policing, and they need to hear from us! The first piece of legislation we are supporting is H.R. 4359, the PEACE Act by representatives Khanna and Clay. The bill tightens the standard for use of deadly force by federal law enforcement officers unless necessary to prevent imminent death or serious bodily injury to themselves or others.
Following George Floyd’s murder, Congresswomen Ayanna Pressley and Ilhan Omar introduced legislation to directly condemn police brutality, racial profiling, and the excessive use of force, as well as the growing militarization of police departments. This legislation includes increased accountability measures, and law enforcement policies that reduce uses of force.
This kind of leadership has always been essential, and now there is momentum behind it!
