With your support, CFPA's High Impact Peacemaking was sustained through the summer now drawing toward a close.

On July 5, 2022 NJ Governor Phil Murphy signed seven new gun safety bills into law! CFPA, through our Ceasefire NJ (CFNJ) Project had been working closely with the Governor and his staff on passing these for well over a year. Gov. Murphy thanked CFNJ for our collaboration at the bill signing ceremony, and his Outreach Director called me to thank us.

The multiple ways we supported passage of this package of bills included:

  • Creating an Action Page for supporters to quickly and easily email their state legislators to urge their co-sponsorship and support. Thousands took the action!
  • Convening monthly meetings of gun violence prevention organizational leaders to coordinate our organizing.
  • Testifying at State Legislative Committee Meetings in support of the bills.
  • Spearheading a June 2 Multifaith Prayer Gathering at the State House and a June 11 Rally Against Gun Violence attended by 350 in Princeton, click to see front page coverage in three local newspapers! Also, click here and scroll down to the third event to see photos, recordings and photos.

Hiroshima/Nagasaki Commemorations

On August 7 and 9, CFPA co-sponsored Commemorations of the Atomic Bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Camden and Princeton, attended by a total of 70. See photo above of the Princeton Commemoration, and click preceding link to see photos, videos, and transcripts of talks given at the events. There was significant press coverage in advance, and more is expected to appear in local weekly newspapers soon.
