CFPA just had the busiest organizing summer in many years, with five major events from June to August. We also continued having advocacy meetings with Congresspersons and/or their staffers, as well as e-alerts to help you quickly email or call your elected representatives in support of those. But the summer was again a very "dry" time for CFPA's fundraising, so our funding for continuing our high impact organizing into the fall and for the remainder of the year is substantially reduced.
I'm excited to share that to help ramp up our finances to meet the challenges this fall, several CFPA donors have pledged a Matching Challenge of $5,000! So your donation NOW will be DOUBLED up to that amount!
I'm writing now to ask that you click here or below to DOUBLE your contribution to CFPA. Donating now as generously as you can gives us the financial resources to sustain our high impact peacemaking into the fall and for the rest of the year.
There are several ways you can maximize your donation and have it DOUBLED for our crucial Fall organizing:
If you already contributed your 2023 membership, you can become a monthly or quarterly pledger to substantially increase your annual giving. The total pledged gift from now until year end will be DOUBLED! If you pledge $25 per month, your $100 total by December will be doubled to $200!
If you haven't yet contributed your 2023 membership, join NOW to have it doubled. You won't be asked for a renewal until 2024.
You can make what would normally be your end of year donation early, and know that it is being doubled!
You can designate the Required Minimum Distribution for your IRA, which takes effect when you turn 72, to our tax deductible Peace Action Education Fund! Contact your plan administrator to arrange for this.
If you prefer to postal mail a check, use address below my name and put "Matching Challenge" in the notation section. For tax deduction, make payable to Peace Action Education Fund, or PAEF.
Also, several supporters have approached us after our Spring 2023 matching challenges for the Membership Gatherings to offer to pitch in to help with Matching Challenges in the future. If you are interested in contributing toward a future Match--our next one will probably be on Giving Tuesday, right after Thanksgiving--please reply to this email.
P.S. A significant portion of the Oppenheimer movie this summer was about how, after he led the first nuclear weapon test, his reputation was severely damaged by McCarthyism. That undermined his credibility in advocating against the development of H Bombs, as well as for preventing a nuclear arms race. It caused me to recall my own experiences of being a target of McCarthyism, which I include in this op-ed I just submitted.
