We have an urgent need for a surge of activism during the two month "window" of the Olympics and Paralympcs before the next round of US-South Korea military exercises in April. See "Here's what war with North Korea would look like," a very sobering assessment of the danger.
Here are some ways you can support CFPA's Activist Surge:
First, you can concretely give your support to strengthen CFPA's finances and political clout by (if you haven't already done so) contributing your 2018 membership! Click here to do so and/or make a special contribution!
Second, see below to send emails to your congress members.
Third, click our latest North Korea fact sheet and Nuclear Weapons Abolition fact sheet to educate yourself and others! We would love to work with you to schedule a speaker to do a presentation to your organization on these urgent issues.
Finally, watch for upcoming alerts with more opportunities to support CFPA's Diplomacy, Not War Campaign!
In January 2018, Representative Ro Khanna (D-Calif) re-introduced H.R. 4837, the No Unconstitutional Strike Against North Korea Act which prevents the President from attacking North Korea. This bipartisan act restricts funds available to the Department of Defense or to any other federal department or agency from being used to launch a military strike against North Korea without the prior approval of Congress or the imperative to respond to an attack against the United States or its allies.
The legislation is endorsed by: American Civil Liberties Union, Ploughshares Fund, Council for a Livable World, Arms Control Association, Win Without War, Indivisible, Friends Committee on National Legislation, Peace Action, Union of Concerned Scientists, Beyond the Bomb, Women Cross DMZ, United Methodist General Board of Church and Society, Global Zero, Korea Peace Campaign, Veterans For Peace, Women's Action for New Directions, Women for Genuine Security, United Methodist Women, Action One Korea, GoodFriends USA, Presbyterian Church USA, Campaign for Peace, Disarmament and Common Security, and National Association of Korean Americans.
In addition, Senator Christopher Murphy (D-CT) introduced S.2047 A Bill to Restrict the Use of Funds for Kinetic Military Operations in North Korea. NJ Senator Cory Booker (D) is an original co-sponsor on this important legislation that also prevents President Trump from launching an attack without approval.
Email your congress members NOW and urge them to co-sponsor these important pieces of legislation and help to prevent war with North Korea!
